How do I register?
For new and returning Eagles, here’s all the 2025 registration details.
Do you have a 2025 calendar?
See our 2025 key dates. Some dates and events are still to be confirmed.
What age group is my child in?
If your child turns 6 this calendar year, they play in U6, turning 7 they play in U7, and so on. Registration automatically applies the child’s DOB to age group. If your child wishes to play up or down a year group, please email our registrar at clovellyeagles@gmail.com
The Get Into Rugby pathways is as follows:
- U4 and U5: Walla Rugby. This stream introduces participants to the basic movements and skills of rugby through fun, small-sided activities. It aims to ensure that every child’s first experience of rugby is positive, safe and inclusive.
- U6 and U7: Tri Time. This stream builds on participants’ core skills by incorporating contact readiness activities, better preparing participants for junior rugby by building their confidence in contact including learning to fall and tackle safely. This stream also introduces participants to modified Tri Tag Rugby, Rugby Australia’s official non-contact format, replacing ‘two-handed touch’ as the standard competition format.
- U8-U12: Junior Rugby
What is “Get into Rugby”?
Rugby Australia is pleased to announce Get into Rugby as the official, entry-level format for children aged 4-7 years from 2025 This means beginning in the 2025 season, any child aged 4 to 7 participating in rugby will do so under the Get into Rugby brand.
What is Minis?
Players in the age groups U4-U9 are referred to as “Minis”.
Is rugby just for boys?
No way! We play mixed rugby and encourage both boys and girls to sign up. Rest assured we take care of all our players by teaching them the right techniques to play safely and have fun. We would love to see more girls playing rugby with the Clovelly Eagles. Why not sign up with a friend?
When is training?
Mondays or Wednesday at Burrows Park, Clovelly (from 3.45pm-7.00pm). Exact day/time for each team will be confirmed in late Feb once teams/coaches are finalised.
When and where do the Clovelly Eagles play?
Our U6-U9 teams play on Saturday mornings at Nagle Park, Maroubra. Exact times to be confirmed for 2025. In 2024, the first games started at 8.30am for the U6s and finished around 12.30pm for the U9 games. There was also be two “away” games and one SJRU gala (this location is usually not confirmed until a week or two prior). In 2024, our U10, U11 and U12 teams played at at Nagle Park, Maroubra for all home games from 5:15pm. The location of the away games varies.
Why do the Minis play some “away” games?
In 2024, the Sydney Junior Rugby Union (SJRU) created a “home and away” format for the Minis to widen the experience of players and clubs. A lot of districts are in decline and this is an attempt to make the game more attractive with more competition to help encourage more participants. This has been done in collaboration with all district and clubs.
What field do I go to at Nagle Park on a Saturday?
A schedule of fixtures can be found on Rugby Xplorer when the season starts. Your manager will usually send a reminder before game day too. You can find the Nagle Park field map here.
Is it safe to play rugby? What age group does tackling start?
As a club, we take safety very seriously. We play non-contact rugby for all players in U4-U7. Tackling starts in U8 with training on technique to improve execution and reduce risks. In 2024, there was a change to the tackle height rule for all levels of Community Rugby across Australia. The tackle height was reduced to below the sternum, making Rugby Union safer and reducing the risk of concussion significantly. These new rules have been trialled across the world including in NZ, England, France and have seen really positive results.
What are the fees for the club?

This will go towards specialist coaching and equipment. Please follow the directions when registering. This scheme is administered by the Australian Sports Federation.
Should you be experiencing financial difficulty, please email clovellyeagles@gmail.com and we will assist you. We want kids playing rugby and will do what we can to support our families.
What is your refund policy?
Your fee is broken into several parts with Clovelly JRFC, Sydney Junior Rugby Union, NSW Rugby Union and Rugby Australia each receiving a portion. This covers all participation costs including players kit, balls and field equipment, training, field hire, match day officials, management of competitions and all insurances. It is important to note that in the event of a refund, Clovelly JRFC can only approve the portion of the fees paid to the club.
Do you take Active Kids vouchers?
We sure do. You will need to obtain the Active Kids voucher number prior to registering as you will need this voucher number during the registration process to reduce your cost of registration. Note: Redeemed NSW Active Kids Vouchers are non-refundable and non-transferrable, as per the terms set by the NSW Office of Sport. Head to the Service NSW website to apply online.
When will I receive the uniform kit?
If you register before 31 January, you will receive your training and playing kit at our season launch event, tentatively scheduled for 19 March. If you register after 1 February, your uniform kit will be delivered in til mid-to-late April.
What should my child wear to training before the uniform kit is received?
A T-shirt and shorts is fine. School PE uniforms are also common.
What about boots and rugby protective gear?
Players need to wear plastic-studded rugby boots to all training sessions and games. Mouthguards are compulsory from U8 onwards and are strongly encouraged from U6s to get players used to wearing one. Headgear and padding is optional and as per player preference.
I would like to request a specific coach and team
When you register you are registering with the club. We will do our best to accommodate requests for specific teams or to be with specific players but we cannot always guarantee this. See our recruitment and player allocation policy.
How will I keep up to date with practical information during the season?
The club has a WhatsApp community channel for all club announcements, as well as a club newsletter via email. Each team has a volunteer parent manager who will set up a team WhatsApp chat group at the start of the season. This will include reminders about training times, game times or training cancellations due to rain (it can happen, we are guided by the local council with park bookings). On occasion, the club will also deliver key messages via the Rugby Xplorer app and/or via email. Also keep an eye on our Instagram page.
Can I volunteer to be a coach or a manager? What’s the time commitment?
Yes! Clovelly Eagles is a volunteer club and we rely on parents to volunteer to coach and manage teams to ensure that we can get as many kids as possible playing. Coaches need to be in attendance for training and games. Managers are mostly responsible for sharing communications updates via WhatsApp (this will be provided to you via the Committee each week) and score-keeping for games. If you are new to the club and are interested in one of these roles, please email clovellyeagles@gmail.com
As a club that relies heavily on volunteers we do ask that parents/carers who are NOT able to volunteer to kindly make a tax-deductible donation towards supporting the club. This will go towards specialist coaching and equipment. Please follow the directions when registering. This scheme is administered by the Australian Sports Federation.
I can’t commit to a volunteer role every week, what else can I do for the club on a more casual basis?
That’s a great question. We understand that not everyone can be available to attend training and games every week. But we still have a host of casual volunteer roles to fill. Many hands make light work throughout the season:
- Uniform kit pick & packing (at the start of the season)
- Merchandise sales during the season (at training and on game days)
- BBQ cook (usually a 45-minute slot)
- BBQ cash (usually a 45-minute slot)
- Parent ambassadors for school and community outreach
How else can I contribute to the Clovelly Eagles club spirit?
The more you put in to our club, the more you get out. Come to training sessions, be early for game times, cheer from the sidelines (for your team and other Eagles teams), follow us on Instagram, share photos and videos on your social channels (and tag us!), come to our fundraising events at The Cloey or Burrows Park, share any local sponsorship leads with your manager, buy merchandise and wear your caps, hoodies and beanies proudly in the community, volunteer for a 45-minute BBQ slot, help with set-up and pack-down at gala days. The list goes on. In short, get involved. And don’t forget to spread the word about our club, particularly at registration time. Parent referrals for new team members and word-of-mouth recommendations are always appreciated so we can keep growing and strengthening our club and rugby community. Go the mighty Eagles!
