Get into Rugby
The Get Into Rugby pathways is as follows:
The U4-U5 age groups play Get Into Rugby Walla which is a non-contact rugby designed for boys and girls to have a fun, safe and inclusive introduction to the game of rugby. This stream introduces participants to the basic movements and skills of rugby through fun, small-sided activities. It aims to ensure that every child’s first experience of rugby is positive, safe and inclusive.
The U6-U7 age groups play Get Into Rugby Tri Time which is a non-contact rugby designed for boys and girls to have a fun, safe and inclusive introduction to the game of rugby. This stream builds on participants’ core skills by incorporating contact readiness activities, better preparing participants for junior rugby by building their confidence in contact including learning to fall and tackle safely. This stream also introduces participants to modified Tri Tag Rugby, Rugby Australia’s official non-contact format, replacing ‘two-handed touch’ as the standard competition format.
The U6-U9 age groups play in Minis competitions organised by local Districts. These competitions operate under the Pathways Laws and provide a series of age-specific modified rugby games. These modified games progressively develop the individual skills, fitness and team work of all players in accordance with their physical maturity and understanding of the game. Tackling begins in U8.
